CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

BEGINNER FOUNDATIONS - In this hatha style class, we slow down the practice and teach more. Each class is a mini workshop to deepen your awareness of your own practice. This is a great class for both new and advanced yogis where instead of rushing through the practice, you will have space and guidance to understand the why and how of yoga.

BIG BODY BENZ - BBB is a hatha style yoga class centered around creating space in your practice and building community for yogis in bigger bodies. We laugh, dance, sing, and explore the practice in a way that honors our bodies fully.

FULL BODY FLOW - Mixed level hatha style yoga class focused on connecting breath to movement, mobility, alignment, co-regulation, and somatic awareness.

QUEER & TRANS YOGA - Hatha style yoga class focused on building community with Queer & Trans yogis.

RESTORATIVE YOGA - In Restorative Yoga, students are invited to stay in each posture for a prolonged period of time (typically 5-7 min) with the support of bolsters, blankets, blocks, and more. The focus in restorative yoga is getting as comfortable as possible, being supported, and restored. We encourage you to bring an eye pillow if you have one.

YIN YOGA - In Yin Yoga, we hold each posture for a prolonged period of time. Different from Restorative Yoga, the goal of Yin Yoga is a slow deep stretch. The longer time in each posture gives students an opportunity to let their bodies carefully release over time by placing mild stress on joints reversing the tightness from day to day functioning like sitting at a desk, driving, or strength training. Yin can be a great compliment to a fast paced yoga practice as well.

YIN YOGA WITH THAI YOGA BODYWORK - Yin Yoga with Thai Yoga Bodywork brings all the beauty of yin but adds in the magic of Thai Yoga Bodywork which includes hands on adjustments, massage, and nurturing touch (with consent). As students stay in each posture, instructors go around offering adjustments to deepen the stretch or relieve tension while in it.

PLEASE NOTE PEOPLE OF ALL LEVELS, ALL BODIES, ALL BACKGROUNDS, AND ALL ABILITIES ARE WELCOME TO ALL CLASSES AT SOUL HAUM.

What is healing focused yoga and meditation?

“Trauma-informed yoga” is becoming a popular term as mental health becomes more publicly accepted and the benefits of yoga and meditation on trauma and stress are better understood. Instead of using the term “trauma-informed yoga,” Jasmine prefers “healing focused yoga and meditation,” although they use the same principles. “Healing focused yoga and meditation” simply places the emphasis on the intention rather than the trauma. A class that is healing focused will use evidence-based practices to create healthy mind-body connections. In a healing-focused class, the teacher will make choices with the understanding that a yoga class can be a therapeutic but also very vulnerable space and that level of vulnerability can become overwhelming for some.

Healing-focused yoga is just as much about what is included in a class as what is intentionally left out. Small details that may be overlooked in a mainstream class are reconsidered in a healing-focused class to make sure no one feels pressure, shame, or pain. More options are provided to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy the class depending on what feels good for their bodies that day. Jasmine makes all of her classes healing-focused because she understands that there are several forms of trauma and stress that many people have experienced, whether they know it or not. Jasmine believes healing trauma is the key to making change and walking in your purpose.

Who is healing focused yoga and meditation for?

Healing-focused yoga and meditation is for everyone. You do not need to be a trauma survivor or in crisis to benefit from a healing-focused class. The tools provided to students in a healing-focused class can be used in any stressful environment, such as work, traffic, or crowded spaces. The considerations made in a healing-focused class will not diminish your experience of a yoga class. All levels of poses can still be explored in a healing-focused class. A healing-focused class is for anyone who wants to be treated with respect and integrity while practicing yoga and meditation.

I’ve tried so many methods of healing my relationship to my body after sexual assault and your classes have helped me more than anything. Staying consistent with your lessons has been the best decision I’ve made for myself in terms of self care. This program is changing my life, thank you. And another thank you for making yoga so accessible! I recommend you anytime someone mentions an interest in yoga :)
— Student of Jasmine
I honestly feel as though I can’t put to words how much Jasmine’s yoga program has meant to me, and how grateful I am to have the opportunity to be a part of it. I have consistently been struck and so inspired by how much Jasmine infuses everything, from the month’s themes and mantras, to the language she uses to guide us through the practice, with such intention, care, and thoughtfulness. Participating in this program has completely changed my relationship to yoga – I had been trying to get into it for years, but could never find a class that worked for me and consistently brought me back to the mat. Jasmine’s healing focused approach has made all the difference. I appreciate all that Jasmine offers in each class, and how much she emphasizes our agency and safety, both physically and mentally. This is the first time I have been in a class where I feel the instructor has built a culture of consent into all that they do – and I feel so lucky to experience it. Even writing about it now makes me tear up! It has meant so much to me to have an environment that gives me the space to move through what comes up during each practice, as and when I need it. I feel safe to challenge myself, to rest, to do whatever it is that my body needs that day. I love the balance between restorative, yin and full body flow. They are definitely highlights of my week. And also, the classes are just so fun, with beautiful music and comfortable energy!

Beyond how enjoyable and engaging each practice is, I deeply appreciate the monthly focus for our practice. I almost feel as if Jasmine is reading my mind every time she announces the next one – they are so relevant and genuine, and I appreciate the space to explore them in my body, heart and mind, both individually and with the Abundance Baddie community. I still now look back at the mantras from my first month in the program, and love seeing all the things we have focused on in the five months since then. It feels genuine, intentional, and grounding – not like the hollow catch phrases around healing which I have often experienced and struggled with before this program. And the learnings and intentions feel so applicable to so many aspects of my life. This past week was a perfect example – just as I have been finding out about and working through how to change my inequitable compensation at work, our mantra was “I ask for what I am worth, and my worth is not up for negotiation.” Some hilarious cosmic timing, and I felt blessed for the reminder.

All of this is strengthened by the community that Jasmine has brought together through this program. I deeply admire the ability to build connection and community over zoom, and appreciate each of the practice check-ins, monthly meet-ups, book club events, and emails, especially during this past year. Definitely am working on making it to more of them! Being able to explore yoga in a (zoom) room in this environment with Jasmine as a guide, particularly with so many people of color from across the world, has been so special.

I also really appreciate that this program’s approach doesn’t feel like denial of all heartbreaking things and systems of oppression that we do not have control over, which have been even more clear and devastating in this past year – as if we can just meditate our way out of things in a bubble. I often think back one of the mantras we discussed in my first class – “I am ready to release the idea of what my life should be to fully awaken to what is.” And I remember Jasmine specifying that we were saying “awaken,” not “accept,” since not everything is acceptable. And we moved to focusing on the present moment, and what we do have the power to change. This really stuck with me, and I feel represents what I love so much about Jasmine’s program. Through this challenging year, it has helped me approach what I can control and how to take care of my physical and mental health, to continue moving through. And I am so so grateful. Thank you so much Jasmine, for all that you do and all that you are. It is such a joy to get to share practices with and learn from you!

I like being able to identify what the feelings in my body mean; being able to tell when my body is communicating with me instead of feeling disconnecting from it. It makes no sense I’ve gone almost 27 years just not being aware of myself. I can only attribute it to starting yoga. I cry in almost all of your classes because of how freeing this journey has been. I’m so grateful I found this community.

Jasmine Allen radiates comfort. I appreciate her voice, her words, and how her entire approach to yoga is designed to hold us. It’s a beautiful & rare feeling, especially online.
— Abundance with Jasmine Allen Participant
I think it’s all just great, I like being able to be with everyone live, but I also love being able to pick classes that target certain areas when I’m on my own. Being able to have variations for poses makes me more confident practicing on my own, and I’m excited to grow
— Abundance with Jasmine Allen Participant
I’m a white Canadian, so completely outside the core community, but I hope that I’m not intrusive or disrespectful to the others in the class. I did not want to keep paying for corporate WW yoga and I’m pleased to continue subscribing to your lessons. Your approach is so calming and safe and empowering. I feel completely at ease and also challenged in your class. Your mantras are so instructive and guide really deep self-reflection and growth, but you have just the right amount of fun to keep it from feeling too heavy. I appreciate the emails and the text reminders.
— Abundance with Jasmine Allen Participant
I get so my much out of what you offer. The emails and what you say during the practice enrich me as much as the poses. Thank you!
— Abundance with Jasmine Allen Participant
Very please with the program. I appreciate the comfortable and welcoming culture that has been created in a very intentional and inclusive manner. I enjoy being able to attend to my overall wellbeing in a holistic manner in one space of peace. Thanks Jasmine
— Abundance with Jasmine Allen Participant
I love your classes and your style of teaching. My practice has blossomed in this new season of learning from you, thank you!
— Abundance with Jasmine Allen Participant
When I began working with Jasmine, I was at a point in my life where I was noticing the way I responded to certain experiences and emotions. I realized that some of my thoughts and behaviors weren’t benefitting me anymore and I needed change but I had no idea how to begin. Together, Jasmine and I broke my big goal into small ones.
What I love most about working with Jasmine is the nurture and compassion she weaves into your work together. The support and encouragement she brings is unexplainable. She shows up for you every time and it makes you want to show up for yourself. Jasmine creates a safe space to feel, learn, and rebuild. If you are ready to make a change, do it with Jasmine Allen.
— Krystal F.

I benefited a lot from the classes each week because I was using my body to feel centered. It was a decent balance that helped me prepare for my work week. I loved how Jasmine explained each pose, what they meant, and what the purpose of each pose was for your body.
— Gabrielle S.

Jasmine’s explanation of how to do certain poses was so helpful, especially downward dog. I’ve had yoga instruction in the past, but the detail that Jasmine put into hand and foot placement made such a difference in my ability to hold my poses.
— Lois R.

Her classes are great! They’re paced to perfection and I’m still able to get a healthy sweat going. It sets the tone for my day.
